If you want a
truly special, small, secluded place to camp, this stunning
riverside meadow will provide it. The level, grassy field
meanders alongside the river offering plenty of space and
privacy. The only buildings visible are the traditional stone
built farmhouse and watermill. The nearby road is unclassified
and quiet, so the only noises are the gentle swirling of the
river, the inquisitive hens and sometimes the Tawny Owls at
night. Locally produced charcoal and firewood is provided, plus
metal trays (though demand can exceed supply when busy),
enabling that long-lost, essential ingredient of traditional
camping, a campfire, to be experienced.
The main focal
point has to be the river (Honddu); this is described as one of the most
important wildlife rivers in Europe, boasting Salmon, Otter,
British Crayfish, Wild Trout and Bull-Head Fish. (Fishing is
available.) In addition to attracting campers it is also home to
Herons, Dippers and Kingfishers.
Recycling is
essential; we take our environmental responsibilities seriously
by providing separate bins for cans, bottles, cardboard etc.,
and earnestly request that everyone take the time to separate
their rubbish accordingly.
Pristine, hot showers, washrooms and toilets are housed in a bow-roofed, cedar-boarded cabin, which is kept cosy, warm and dry
with sheepswool insulation.
The unspoilt
natural haven of peace and quiet in the Brecon Beacons is helped by the request for no
noise after 10.30, which is also when the cabin lights go off - so no light pollution.

Below are three sample reviews of
the campsite from
our page on ukcampsite.co.uk:
"The best campsite I have ever
been to. Quiet, secluded, beautiful surroundings. Excellent
simple facilities, short walk into town, no idiots, friendly
owners.
Best thing of all - you can buy locally produced charcoal and
borrow a fire pit to have a nice BBQ, then add some wood (also
can be bought) and have an open fire to sit round. Bliss."
"...The surroundings are idyllic. It
sits by the river, surrounded by trees. The road which runs
along the top is very quiet. A feature of the campsite is that
they ask for no noise after 10:30. This makes it ideal for
campers and caravanners (there is ample space for both types of
unit) who prefer a quieter stay..."
"10/10 for this site. Limited
washing/loo facilities but kept absolutely spotless. Lovely
location, right by the river and quiet. Very friendly and
helpful owners. A small site, but this just adds to its
attraction. Showers are 50p for 4 mins, so remember to bring
coins, but piping hot water which doesn't fluctuate and on a tap
not timed push button used in so many sites. 5 min walk along
the river and past the Cathedral into Brecon..."
